God is Love – Reflections on who God is – Day 3 of 31

God is Love

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. ~ 1 John 4:8 NKJV

God is love! Notice it doesn’t say Love is God!

When we say love is God, we may assume that our selfish feelings of affection is God!

Some may even think that our lust for things and other people is God!

No! Love as we usually define it is not God!

What then does the apostle John mean when he says that God is Love?

God is ultimately good! He only does what is God. This is the best summary for all that God is.

If we want to capture the Bible in the words, these are the words- GOD IS LOVE.

God is never selfish. God does not demand anything from us to make God better. God is already the best that God can be!

God’s love for us is pure! It is this love that makes it impossible for God to allow sin in us! God must always act in a way that results in our progress. He must allow situations to work out to move us forward. Sometimes the situations and events that God allow may be temporarily painful, but in the end, they are ultimately good.

God is Love! God will not impose Himself on us. Despite our failure to grasp God’s love, God still loves us!

God is love! This means God loves everyone! God cannot love evil because evil is the opposite of love.

Since God loves with all His greatness, then God must hate evil or be ultimately opposed to evil with all His greatness!

We know how much God loves us by how much he detests anything that aims to reduce us! God is love. That means God is against everything that is against me or any of His children.

God is Light, God is eternally present, God does not change and God is love.

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to know how much you love me. Let me hate sin as much as you hate it. Please Lord, help me see that following your ways can only lead to my progress.

Dear God, I trust you. I know I am safe with you. I thank you for loving me so much! I’m so glad that you love me!

Have your way in my life! Continue your work in me!

I pray all this in Jesus Name!
