What then is the “fear of the Lord”? Simply put, it is the understanding that you are not in control of the universe, you cannot categorically determine what tomorrow will be like, you cannot even wake yourself up in the morning. It is accepting that there is an all powerful God who is aware of what we are doing and has set up a system for ensuring that things work well. That our actions will be rewarded with both temporal and eternal consequences. This awareness makes us more thoughtful about our lives, more deliberate in determining our actions and more willing to repent or make amends when we are wrong! This is only the beginning of knowledge, more comes when we act in obedience to the instructions of the Lord. It is quite obvious that anyone who despises wisdom is a fool, so is anyone who ignores the God who created the universe!
