Is God against personal ambitions? Would it displease God if you have a goal and a desire to be a billionaire in dollars and travel the world? What about becoming a governor of your state or building the biggest church in your country?
I don’t think God is against personal ambition. What God is against, is a wasted life. Although personal ambition can guide you and keep you focused, it can also distract you from what you are really looking for – love, respect, value, joy and freedom.
When you pursue ambition, you could get money and loose love, family, faith. You could make an impression on earth, even change the way we live, but we believe that there is life after life on earth. Following God’s call is how you make impact that starts here and continues in eternity.
Here is what I believe we need to do to personal ambitions. Submit them to God! What does that mean? How does that look?
Well pray a prayer like this – As much as I love to build a big company that will serve millions and make millions of dollars in profit (replace with your ambition here), what I really want is to be filled with joy. I know I need health, financial freedom, and love to have joy so Lord, I surrender my life to you and trust that you will guide me to joy as I seek to build your kingdom.
I find that, as I invest more time into introducing people to the gospel of the Kingdom of God, which comes through Jesus, I have more joy, more peace and more freedom. It takes faith and patience!
